Created with fd's Flickr Toys. The photograph was taken during "Tribute Week" in Memphis in August 2003. I was standing on the train overpass near Central Station (Amtrak) in the South Main District. The Elvis impersonator (or just some sidewalk-phobic Memphian headed for a Dead Elvis party) is walking west on G.E. Patterson Blvd. between Front St. and Main St., passing a trolley stop. I was photographing Power House, the contemporary art museum occupying the train stations old power plant outbuilding, when this vision materialized.
I love parodies of motivational posters, so i jumped at the chance to compose my own using on of FD's Flickr Toys. I wanted a quote that made sense with the image, and the red cape and "hero of the comic book" seemed to be the best connection. For the record, this Elvis Presley quote comes from his acceptance speech for the 1970 Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation Award. Here is the full quotation, courtesy of Wikiquote:

This is inspired by the "de-motivational" posters at despair.com. The image was created using fd's Flickr Toys.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident during a high performance driving school at Road America that caused this damage to the NSX. The instructors probably were not all that surprised at this result, given that the driver showed up in a nomex suit, despite the fact he was in the same novice class that I was.

I come from the Chicago suburbs, and I can almost guarantee that around here, anyone that doesn't own farmland but owns an SUV, does not use it for off-roading. And I'm talking about the reallll big ones. And don't get me started on luxury SUVs...

WIT: I hate these posters, so I decided to rebel from the start. I took a box, dropped it on my bathroom floor (Tribute to Prozac74's love of bathrooms). Using image stabilization with the flash turned on, I snapped the picture. I added the black background plus words via The GIMP.
Sweet and Simple, as I've been too busy for anything else lately.
